An iconic 90s vintage designer dress by Azzedine Alaia - a work of art by the sadly departed couturier and ‘King of Cling’. This soft sculptural dress is made of ‘houpette’, a chenille like tufted nylon fabric developed especially for Alaia to resemble and have the feel of swan’s down. Mimicking the form of a human rib cage, this dress alternates bands of plush chenille with stretch knit with a central band and fishtail hem.
This exact dress is held in the collection of the Fashion Institute of Design Museum, a shorter version is held in the Met, and the long gown version of the dress in black and white was used in the advertising campaign for Alaia’s signature fragrance. Made to couture standards, this is truly a museum worthy piece and will only appreciate in value.
